What's Presbyopia?

Lee from Jackson asks:
"What is presbyopia and do I have it?"

Lee, presbyopia is the natural decrease in focusing ability we all notice as our age increases.  It normally becomes bothersome after age 40.  So if you're over 40, you have presbyopia.  At Heartland Eyecare, we use bifocal or progressive addition lenses in glasses to help patients who suffer from presbyopia see better at near.  In contact-lens patients, we rely on monovision contact lens where one eye sees at far and the other at near and occasionally bifocal contacts.
