Dr. Felker, I have floaters in my eyes!

Dr. Felker, I have floaters in my eyes. What causes them, and should I be concerned?
James

James,
Floaters are usually caused by debris in the posterior portion of the eye (behind the pupil). They are usually harmless and eventually drop out of sight. But they can be an early sign of retinal detachment which can be serious. I recommend you have them examined to rule out retinal detachment. We can do that here at Heartland Eyecare. Just give us a call at 573-472-2900.
